Chartered Floatplane Service

A beautiful Alaskan seaplane!

Pybus Point Lodge is located on an extremely remote island far away from the distractions of the city. This makes for incredible sightseeing, fishing, and an all around great opportunity to connect with friends, family, and mother nature. Our lodge is so remote that just getting there is an exciting adventure in its own right!

Your stay at our all-inclusive resort will begin with either an epic ride in an Alaskan floatplane or a scenic ride in one of our luxurious, custom built boats. No matter how you travel to our lodge, you’ll see part of the exact same route that all major cruise lines follow as they show their passengers what Alaska is all about. Unlike those cruise ship passengers, this will just be the beginning of your Alaska adventure.

We try our best to make sure our guests get to travel to the lodge via floatplane whenever possible, but sometimes the weather conditions are simply too dangerous for flying. Thankfully we’ve gotten pretty good at turning lemons into lemonade, and it takes a little more than rain and fog to stop the adventure at Pybus Point Lodge!

Remote Location!

The gorgeous view on the flight to Pybus Point Lodge.

People have been traveling to Pybus Point Lodge for generations to experience Alaska’s rugged beauty. We’re located on the shore of the remote Admiralty Island, deep in the heart of the Tongass National Rainforest. Admiralty Island is so exceptionally wild and unique that it was designated as a National Monument back in 1978 in order to ensure that its beauty can be enjoyed by visitors for years to come.

There are very few other human beings on Admiralty, in fact, there are nearly three times as many brown bears as there are people on the island at any given time. The lodge itself is surrounded by roughly 1 million acres of thick, lush rainforest. There are only two human settlements on the 1,600 square mile island: Pybus Point Lodge and Angoon, a small town of Indigenous Tlingit people.

Needless to say, guests at Pybus Point Lodge enjoy Alaska in a truly extraordinary way and have a much more immersive experience than folks who only see Alaska from the deck of a cruise ship.

Getting To The Lodge

For guests of Pybus Point Lodge, traveling to a remote island way out in the middle of the rainforest is a lot easier than you might think! Our all-inclusive vacation package fully covers the cost of travel to and from the lodge. All you have to do is let us know when you want to visit and we’ll do the rest!

Weather permitting, we’ll arrange for you and your party to fly to and from the lodge with a professional pilot in a small floatplane. Due to the large number of float plane charters in town, Juneau’s airport has a few specially designated hangars for local business to use. They even have a special water landing strip for float planes to take off, land, and dock.  After you arrive in town, we’ll help you find exactly where you can meet up with your pilot.

If you’re feeling a little uneasy about traveling in a small aircraft, rest assured that flying in a floatplane is an incredibly popular and perfectly safe way to see Alaska. Additionally, we only work with the best float plane charters in town who exclusively employ expert bush pilots and keep meticulously maintained aircrafts.

What To Expect

The cabin of a floatplane.

There’s only one major difference between flying in a floatplane and flying in a commercial jet: flying in a floatplane is actually fun! As you glide over serene mountain tops, hidden lakes, and remote water passages, you’ll be safely buckled into a plane that’s specifically designed for flying in Alaska’s airspace. As you peer out the window there’s a good chance that you’ll spot some wild brown bear! If you’re lucky, you might even get an aerial view of a breaching humpback whale

Though float planes aren’t equipped with the same big comfy seats that you see on jet planes, floatplanes are more comfortable than you might expect. The pilots do everything they can to make your flight as smooth as possible, and will even provide you with earplugs or a noise canceling headset to keep your ears safe throughout the flight.

Oftentimes the floatplane ride to the lodge is more calm than the commercial flight to Juneau. We monitor local weather conditions very closely and only allow flights to and from our lodge while conditions are safe and comfortable.

If your pilot lets you know that you’ll be experiencing turbulence, don’t be surprised if you bounce around a little more than you would on a commercial jet–it’s perfectly normal. The extra bounciness is simply a result of the floatplanes' smaller size and not at all an indication of risk. So if you do experience some turbulence just relax and enjoy the once in a lifetime view! The area you’ll be flying over is some of the most untouched wilderness on planet earth and there’s something beautiful everywhere you look.

If you are someone who typically experiences air sickness, we do recommend that you take dramamine or find some other method of combating nausea before boarding the plane.

To help you have a better idea of what to expect, we made this interactive, 360º video showing you the entire flight from Juneau to Pybus Point Lodge. Take a look!

Before landing at Pybus, you’ll see our state-of-the-art dock and fish processing facility. This dock was carefully designed with our unique location in mind to ensure that floatplanes can safely land and take off without issue. After you touch down, our dock team will secure the plane to our dock and help you exit. Once you land, you don’t need to worry about a thing! Our dock team will unload all your luggage and carry it directly to your room. All you need to do is stop into our main lodge for a quick orientation video before we set you up with your own full-time guide!

Incredible Experience!

Pybus Point Lodge has some of the most stunning scenery I’ve ever seen. I mean absolutely breathtaking! In addition to the amazing fishing, I hiked to a beautiful secluded lake, soaked in some hot pots, saw several waterfalls, went whale watching, saw bears and all kinds of wildlife and marine life. As a photographer, photographing a wedding under a waterfall will remain a highlight of my life.

Wonderful and Magical Place

We had an amazing business retreat to Pybus Point Lodge.  Everything was top notch... the fishing, the staff, the boat captains, the food, the accommodations, and especially the scenery. I really liked that Pybus took care of everything from start to finish. Chef John is an amazing cook. We had delicious hot meals the entire trip.  The cabins were amazing and very comfortable.  The fishing was awesome and that’s coming from a guy that doesn’t fish that much.

We brought home 100lbs of fish!

My wife and I spent a week at Pybus Point this Summer. We had a beautiful, private room overlooking the bay and our own new, ensuite, private bathroom. What an amazing place for couples to get away together. We set our own breakfast time, met our boat captain after, fished the day along, and returned to clean up and enjoy a nice dinner at the restaurant. Next time Alaska is on the trip list, Sherrie and I will go together, and it will be to Pybus Point!

Fun in Alaska

This was my first trip to Pybus Point. I stayed in one of their new cabins. The accommodations were incredible, the view onto the bay in the mornings was stunning. I loved the staff and the food was really very good. All of this and they have new boats to take you out onto fairly calm waters to fish. The fishing guides were great. Overall a great experience. Definitely going back.
