The Value of Booking a Fishing Vacation Well in Advance

Pybus Point Lodge Logo

Vacations generally require some robust advanced planning, and the world of Alaskan fishing vacations and wildlife adventures is no exception. Many people are interested in these trips each year, and waiting too long to begin your planning may leave you looking at not only limited availability, but also higher costs and other issues you'll avoid by simply doing your planning well in advance.

At Pybus Point Lodge, we're happy to offer a wide range of Alaskan fishing adventures, wildlife tours and related excursions, with the best all-inclusive rate values in the state for those looking to experience all its beauty. We assist numerous clients each year with the planning and booking process for any of our services, from accommodations and wonderful food at Pybus Lodge to equipment, watercraft and everything else you'll need for your experience. What are some of the top reasons we strongly recommend booking our trips well in advance to get the best options and pricing? Here are several.

Date Availability

The first big reason why advanced planning is necessary for any Alaskan fishing trip is the same as for other popular destinations or trip types: Date availability. The longer you wait to book your trip, the smaller your list of available dates will be, and the fewer choices you'll have for your trip. In most cases, that means missing out on a great experience because you're waiting to make your decision.

At Pybus Point Lodge, our trip season runs from May through September, with similar availability in October and November depending on weather conditions and other factors. Many of our clients book these trips months or even over a year in advance, especially when they plan to come with a larger group or are particularly interested in making sure the dates and services they want will be available. For example, many people book their trips from June through September every year because those seasons represent the peak time of opportunity for salmon fishing opportunities around Alaska.

In addition, booking early allows many people the time they need to arrange time off of work, child or pet care, and other themes that require attention before leaving on a trip. Some employers are pretty strict about time off requests, for instance, and making one just a few weeks before a major vacation won't fly; if your request is made several months ahead of time, though, everyone involved has time to make the proper adjustments.

Financial Factors

Another big reason to book an Alaskan fishing trip well in advance: You're likely to get a better deal. Those who book early are often presented with discounts or other incentives, and those who take advantage of them are more often able to consider a trip that they otherwise couldn't afford.

We have several different room types at Pybus Point Lodge, from basic rooms with no frills to deluxe suites with stunning water views and beyond; we're happy to work with clients on available pricing for any of these options, but availability of each will vary depending on the time of year and other factors. When you book early, you often have more choice over what types of rooms or suites are available to you. In addition, we offer special rates for guides who book services with us for the season; booking in advance means these specialists can plan their schedules out further in advance, which in turn helps us provide better service to our clients.

Booking Flights and Other Transportation

Taking a trip to Alaska is very different from many other state-to-state trips in that it requires air travel -- and sometimes sea travel as well -- to arrive at your final destination. And as anyone who books flights often is well aware, this is a process that's best begun early. Flights are simply less expensive if you book them months ahead of time, for starters, and even a few weeks can make a big difference.

Flying into the Alaskan interior means flying through Anchorage or Fairbanks, both major cities that see varying volumes of air traffic on any given day. Depending on when you're traveling to Alaska and specific airport, demand for flights at your departure time may be very high; booking early will give you the best chance of finding affordable flights that meet your needs and schedule.

Once you're in Alaska, travel within the state is mostly by air or sea; again, booking early will give you more choice over types of aircraft or boats available to you. Our team is happy to help with any needs in this area.

Incredible Experience!

Pybus Point Lodge has some of the most stunning scenery I’ve ever seen. I mean absolutely breathtaking! In addition to the amazing fishing, I hiked to a beautiful secluded lake, soaked in some hot pots, saw several waterfalls, went whale watching, saw bears and all kinds of wildlife and marine life. As a photographer, photographing a wedding under a waterfall will remain a highlight of my life.

Wonderful and Magical Place

We had an amazing business retreat to Pybus Point Lodge.  Everything was top notch... the fishing, the staff, the boat captains, the food, the accommodations, and especially the scenery. I really liked that Pybus took care of everything from start to finish. Chef John is an amazing cook. We had delicious hot meals the entire trip.  The cabins were amazing and very comfortable.  The fishing was awesome and that’s coming from a guy that doesn’t fish that much.

We brought home 100lbs of fish!

My wife and I spent a week at Pybus Point this Summer. We had a beautiful, private room overlooking the bay and our own new, ensuite, private bathroom. What an amazing place for couples to get away together. We set our own breakfast time, met our boat captain after, fished the day along, and returned to clean up and enjoy a nice dinner at the restaurant. Next time Alaska is on the trip list, Sherrie and I will go together, and it will be to Pybus Point!

Fun in Alaska

This was my first trip to Pybus Point. I stayed in one of their new cabins. The accommodations were incredible, the view onto the bay in the mornings was stunning. I loved the staff and the food was really very good. All of this and they have new boats to take you out onto fairly calm waters to fish. The fishing guides were great. Overall a great experience. Definitely going back.
